Terra Madre Event
Terra Madre was held in Bulgaria for the first time on 23 – 25 October by Slow Food Bulgaria. Slow Food Nation is a movement that came to realisation in 1989 in Paris as a counterpoint of fast food chains and their destructible influence of local traditions and culture, related to agriculture and food. The philosophy behind Slow Food is hidden behind three words: Good, Clean and Fair. According to this philosophy, food should be made out of quality products and in a way that isn’t harmful to nature and, of course, food should be tasty. Today Slow Food is also developed in Bulgaria and also global level, the organisation is settled in more than 150 countries, reaching millions of people all over the world.
Terra Madre is a research platform with the primary goal to spread knowledge about local foods, culinary traditions, local communities, small farmers and food producers. The participants in the forum also discussed the features of genetic fund of crops.
“This is the forum of The Earth, “Terra Madre” – Mother Earth. This is a forum for everyone, who are taking care of our planet!” says associate prof. Desislava Dimitrova from the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at BAS.
